Holy Fuck, I can't believe so many people have rushed to the defense of this terrible, sad and offensive record. I've enjoyed what I've heard in the past from American Aquarium, but every song on this record says the exact same thing and it's obnoxious and trite.

As for you who say that this review is simply an attack on BJ Barham's character (simply regurgitating AA's own blog post on the review) obviously didn't read the review.

Forgoing Grayson's intentions, the review noticeably and absolutely focuses on BJ's character rather than thorough critiques of the music. The band's rapidly growing popularity in the Triangle deserves to be mentioned, and would serve both reader and writer in providing balance and legitimacy.

1: First, ljeffs, I understand your concern over my use of bipolar. But Im using the word strictly to indicate that the band has two sides or two polesthose being quiet and acoustic or loud and electric, something I mention elsewhere in the review, too.

I'm a die-hard American Aquarium fan who's willing to spend my hard-earned money on their albums and merchandise while traveling to see the band perform live. I may not be well-educated in the music industry, but I do know one thing....it doesn't matter what the critics say as long as there are plenty more of people like me. Mr. Currin is definitely in the minority.

With that said... whether you are a weekend warrior or a nightly drinker looking for an alt-rock, with an east street feel, soundtrack this record may be for you.

The record is riddled with in your face lyrics about drunk debauchery and girl problems.

I'm not a big AA fan, but I've really enjoyed what I have heard from them in the past. The new album is however, a far step from their old stuff.

Ok, so obviously there are some big AA fans in the Triangle area, but I have to come to Grayson's defense here. He has been showing up to AA shows since way back when they played less than memorable NCSU social events in '05 (did anyone see them open for Crossfade?), has always been very cordial to them, and knows what they are capable of.

In response to this horrendous article you people are trying to pass off as a "review", I must say that I have read and re-read this and find nothing a but a bitter man trying to tear down someone he doesn't respect nor care for.

Whether or not you care for BJ as a person, you are completely losing your status as an objective music critic by lashing out at a single band member.

Ljeffs...I think you should read the review more closely before 'alerting authorities'. Mr. Currin uses bipolar as an adjective to describe a band who may not be able to settle on a particular style, not to poke fun at anyone's mental illness.
