<![CDATA[I consistently find Mr. DeLuca's comments to be less than constructive, along the lines of if it does not two the conservative line blow it up. I have four chldren in the Wake County schools and, while not perfect, I believe that the system as a whole is doing an good job.

<![CDATA[Close but no cigar: Bob said "I took him to be saying, look, this system is so bloated and inefficient that it should fall and be replaced by schools that operate somewhat independently--like charter schools do--and are responsive to their "customers" or else. I think our difference now is that Francis would consider that, if it happened, a reformed system and not constitute the collapse of the "whole public school system," as I termed it.

<![CDATA[Francis and I did, indeed, talk for at least half an hour, and just talked again. He believes I've misstated his position by summarizing it as wanting the whole public school system to fall of its own weight and be replaced by schools that are market-driven, like charter schools are.

<![CDATA[Bob Geary quotes me as follows, De Luca says, he'd like to see the whole public school system fall of its own weight I did not say that. I stated that the current education model in Wake County and North Carolina was very similar to the economic model that the Big Three automakers and the old line airline companies built.
