<![CDATA[Thanks to John Hammond for his extraordinary investigative efforts over several months. My own story includes superlative care during a 2 week hospital stay in 2001, followed by ruthless collections actions.

<![CDATA[I want to thank John Hammond for his article. I am an employee of Surgical Services at UNC Hospitals and I feel disappointed that several of my fellow employees are being rewarded with bonuses equal to or greater than my annual salary for providing less health care to Medicare and other less fortunate patients.

<![CDATA[The $200 million figure is for "uncompensated" care and includes real charity care given to those unable to pay as well as all discounts on charges given to insurance companies for their business. Some would argue that these discounts are the cost of doing business and should not be counted and the term uncompenstated care should not be used.
