Re: “The truth about the Goathouse Refuge

My two cats stayed at Goathouse Refuge for 3 months and when we got them, they were happy, at their ideal weight, and SO HAPPY. They had absolutely no health issues.

There are a lot of cats there, and there is a lot of space. What's more there is a lot of love.

Re: cage issue. In shelters, many animals never get to be out a cage. My cats were kept in a very large cage for their first month. And knowing them, it was for the best- many cats are very territorial and they need to have a confined space so that they don't start fights AND so that they feel safe. It helps cats physiologically to have a little spot that is theirs. Did I mention the cages have small hammocks for the cats to relax in?!? So, yes, I'm sure that other cats had to stay in cages (an seriously, go there and you will see that the cages are shockingly large) and that some don't eat at first- but that is how most animals feel when they are in a new place without an owner etc.

Re: bird/lizard concern. If you have issues with cats, then have issues with all cats, not just siglinda's. Many outdoor cats are free to roam several acres; Siglinda's area is fenced in, and surrounded by spacious suitable habitat, so other wildlife has plenty of safe space to live.

If you want to nitpick fine, be my guest. But try to step back and recognize that during the time that this article was written, read, and analyzed, Singlinda has been hard at work actually making the world a better place.

Shame on the contributors of this article- who do you think your review hurts the most? Thanks to you, I cringe at the reality that potential foster families and adopters might not provide a home to one of these cats. If you all really have a problem with Singlinda and her operation, I suggest first visiting other shelters to realize how much better her place is and then, if you still had issues, open your checkbook so that she can hire more staff and do whatever else it takes to "meet your standards." That, not writing a hateful, misleading, article, would be an act of grace and love.
