Of course it takes a lot more " energy" etc.
Often ,the same people who lament "global warming" , live in big houses and drive big SUVs . Plus fly around the world like they forgot what they espoused yesterday in their editorial to the newspaper .

It seems the real problem with the guns is that the wrong people can get them illegally by : stealing , buying from a friend/neighbor/crook or simply getting one legally and later deciding to do something horrible with it . Of course there are other ways to do horrible things . I see no good solutions , especially in our current society that is so fluid . In the old days people knew everyone in their neighborhood and mostly what they were up to .

I agree with most of your essay , but having personal contact with the Common Core ( as a high school math teacher) leads me to disagree with you on it's origins and strengths.
It's implementation has been confusing , top down , without textbooks and materials and unorganized. The idea ( more rigor) could easily have been added to or re-emphasized to the old material.
That's not the half of it . Talking down to teachers , changing teaching assignments , intimidation by evaluation tools and general adversary tactics has made the toxic atmosphere , leathal . Teachers that have a way out are leaving . Others would like to leave , but hope they can outlast the current situation . Very depressing to a great faculty .
