Re: “A tragedy changes how high school wrestling is officiated in North Carolina

While this was a wonderful article that told a wonderful story about this standout boy who could erect barns by himself at the age of ten, this story is littered with inconsistencies. You say "who could forget the cheap shot to the crotch that prompted a small headbut and disqualification? You, you could forget it because you never saw it. I know this because if you had you wouldn't downplay it as nothing. There's a reason he was disqualified, he was a bully and would purposely try to incite arguments on the mat and start fights. "I knew I shouldn't have let him on that mat" -okay first of all bull shit. There was absolutely positively no way to expect that. The outside mats were not flush to the walls, they were at the baseline of the basketball court (approximately 3.45 feet) from the wall on both sides. There was padding lining the walls for collisions and protection. What happened was a freak accident, not a mistake by anyone. Luke shot in on his opponent and they went out of bounds and the ref blew the whistle and the Cox Mill wrestler fell over to the right and Luke lost his balance and stumbled forward with his head ducked (not proper form for a shot) and into the wall. I'm not here to bad mouth Luke, but it's unfair to paint such negative pictures of people who aren't from Sparta or in Luke's family or Luke himself.
