As a millennial that believes in climate change, the problem I have with these recent movements is that they appear to push more of an agenda rather than look at what scientists agree are the optimal solutions. Germany's push for renewables has larger been viewed as a failure that is ruining their economy and INCREASING its emissions. It only resulted in shutting down nuclear power which is the single greatest form of energy for combating climate change. Increasing the use of nuclear energy should be just as big of a focus at these rallies. Renewables are still very costly and only survive in the United States marketplace due to subsidies. Ecowatch is not an unbiased news source I'm afraid. That's a poor source. Here are few sources that should add to the conversation. Leading climate scientists agree that nuclear is the key.
There is a difference between a monopoly and a regulated utility. The southeast electric rates are some of the cheapest in the country. You need only to look at New England electric rates to see that competition in this case is a worse idea. Duke Energy provides great service. Remember that these employees are your friends and relatives and they genuinely care about about the customers and the environment in which they live.
