ZacBee, not sure why you needed to create new account as "palmtree" other than to look like another person. What I hear in your "argument" is anger and blame about other people being the problem--denying the role of a central player (the principal) in making things better. I suspect, you are laying the groundwork for an argument that says that the feedback teachers gave was about the assistant principals, and not Ms. Jackson. I'm pretty sure the feedback was about the principal.
I believe Ms. Jackson thinks she's doing the right thing, and getting reinforcement from her boss. But her behavior is inflammatory. Whether about murals, plagiarism, teachers, student behavior, etc, she is consistently off the mark. She talks about respect, but in her actions shows none to parents, teachers and students. This, by the way, was a common comment in the Ann Arbor threads about her. It's not just a rant from a "true" Chapel Hillian... as you say. All in all, we are not heading in the right direction. We need to build up, not tear down. I don't believe that Ms. Jackson's approach will get the job done. We need a different tone.

I think we do. This is a public school. The community, the tax payers, drive what is important. We are hopefully empowering the best teachers to grow the thinking of our children. You and Ms. Jackson, and perhaps the Superintendent disagree with our thinking. You are not listening.
It does look like we are not doing anything about plagiarism in the case of Principal Jackson. I agree with you and think it's embarrassing.
In re-reading the article and the quotes from Lynn Fox, I am disappointed that a member of the Improvement Team has only picked up the administration viewpoint which consistently doesn't recognize or doesn't care to recognize deeper issues. I would encourage Fox to dig deeper and talk with others outside of the team, and learn what is going in in the school. Her quotes suggest she believes the words of the administration, but hasn't seen what actually goes on. Her view is disconnected with what many, many others see happening.
One final point, both the superintendent and Fox feel that this was handled poorly, which misses the point (intentionally or not). Neither make a comment about plagiarism nor the myriad of examples of it written at the hand of Principal Jackson. What would have been the outcome if indeed they followed Fox's suggestion that "they should have gone to her and it would have been resolved." Principal Jackson's words want it to go away. Surrogates attack the issue, suggesting its not plagiarism, or in the ironic case Callie WILLIAMS writing about Sulura WILLIAMS Jackson's "cryptomnesia". But she apparently continues to borrow words, assuming we must not be smart enough to catch on (her thanksgiving note).
We have process problems as I wrote earlier that need to be attended to, that I'm not sure the Improvement Team can address. But it is a different issue. Let's address the plagiarism issue first and be done with it. Then we can move on.
There are at least two different issues here.
1. She is accused of plagiarism. Many examples seem to support the accusation. Seems pretty clear cut case to many.
1.1 If yes to plagiarism, what happens to her? What is the message to the community?
1.2 If no to plagiarism, why is it not plagiarism, and what should be the message about what plagiarism is?
2. Staff are fearful to have an open conversation with the principal about this and other issues. History of interactions with administration does not support open conversation for fear of retribution. So far the approach is to be annoyed by it. A healthy approach would be to acknowledge it and begin to put in safeguards and develop trust.
A larger question centers around the recognition over the last few weeks that these issues with Principal Jackson were problems at her prior school. What else is next for us with her?
I hope this is on the school board behind closed doors agenda for thursday. While others in her position have had the sense to resign (hard to say if they were forced out), she mocks the issue. Her thanksgiving message to faculty apparently contained lifted works as well. The district is currently on record saying this is much ado about nothing. What is the message to the students?
NecessaryDissent, what was the text that was lifted in her thanksgiving message to staff? If she indeed plagiarized after saying she would stop, it means one of three things: thumbing nose at staff and community, doesn't understand what plagiarism is, or has real personal issues with serial plagiarism. Any of those things are unacceptable and she needs to go immediately.
Can you provide the message?
