Copperheads are beautiful and fascinating animals. They generally don't cause problems if left alone.Too many harmless snakes are slaughtered as "copperheads" so if you feel you have to kill one try to be absolutely sure of the ID. Use your shovel to chase it into the underbrush and you will probably never see it again.
