As much as I wish this were true, I'm part of District 12, which, as you'll see on a NC district map, is the parts of Greensboro by UNCG, the poorest parts of Winston Salem (45 minutes away), and the poorest parts of Charlotte, an hour and a half away (70+ miles)
We voted against Amendment 1. We voted against McCrory the first go-around. They've engineered a system that has made the most population dense areas count for squat, and the rural most areas count as several districts.
Also, it's not just the district map that's the problem. There's also the Voting Restrictions bill that specifically targets democrats and minorities.
There's also the issue with Art Pope and his conglomerates funding the entire NC GOP with over 140 million dollars and outspending every other candidate's campaign. 85% of the candidates backed by Art Pope's money and influence have won their elections. He runs smear campaigns against his enemies- even in his own party.
Without Citizens United and the Voting Rights Act Decision being overturned AND the redistricting map remaining partisan, it would take one hell of a campaign to get any more Dems or Moderates through.
