Re: “Three for Three: Atlantic Coast Conference Follows NCAA's Lead, Pulls "All Neutral-Site Championships"

I anticipate that Governor McCrory will soon lay blame for this vindictive conspiracy against North Carolina at the feet of the person truly responsible for starting it all : A foreign-born revolutionary whose radical ideas first erupted on our college campuses, swept across our nation like a plague of locusts, then encircled the globe with the swiftness of a pandemic fever, infecting countless millions in its path. That villain, of course, would be Professor James Naismith, the inventor of basketball.

Re: “Is the Durham GOP’s New Headquarters Violating Zoning Laws?

Jim Anthony, who owns the property through an LLC, says above “I figured [the Durham GOP] would take responsibility for whatever permitting or zoning issues they needed to take care of. If they haven’t, then, yes, they’ve got a problem on their hands.”

Jim may soon discover that as the OWNER of the property , HE also has a problem on HIS hands, not just the Durham GOP. Section 15.1.3 Part A of the Durham UDO states "The definition of violator ...means that both tenant and landlord, where applicable, may be in violation and subject to penalties.

And by the way, why has Anthony let the house sit vacant for three years? That can't be very good for the neighborhood either.

Re: “Criminal minds: racial profiling in Alamance County

Kendrick Carroll commented above that police "usually let them go on scene because they have no license, which means they won't consent to blood toxicology. Means no evidence, no conviction. Someone of any other color your ass is in jail". That is nonsense. North Carolina law allows officers to request a search warrant based on probable cause of DUI. With such a warrant, a suspect's blood may be drawn--regardless of consent and by force if necessary-- for the purpose of determining blood alcohol content or the presence of intoxicating drugs. Furthermore, an officer may compel blood testing WITHOUT a search warrant if there are exigent circumstances that any delay may result in the loss of evidence. Possessing a license has nothing to do with it. John Does are arrested, booked and held pending bail all the time.
