Re: “Who's who at Civitas? Let's name names

Alexander Guin of the Civitas Group will be getting married to his fiancee, Suzanne Brennan, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Dr Raleigh, NC, on August 24, 2013.

Buy them something off their registry here.

I'm thinking of getting them a Dacron pillow.

Katie Trout, Communications Coordinator at Parents for Education Freedom of North Carolina, also mysteriously went right from a job at the Civitas Institute into working for PEF.

PEF's chief operating officer, Daniel Hudspeth, who's also an MBA student at UNC, just got done with 4+ years of work for Imagine Charter Schools, a huge, failing charter school network founded by conservative Christians.

Re: “Who's who at Civitas? Let's name names

There's also Tiffany Taylor, graphic design specialist at the Civitas Institute.

http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=15…

Her LinkedIn profile shows an endorsement from Karen Duquette of Parents for Educational Freedom. She's a former Civitas Institute employee. Her current group claims it gets no funding from Pope or Civitas, but I guess they get free graphic design:

"Even groups that are independent, like Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina, benefit from the Pope empire's warm embrace. PEFNC President Darrell Allison says his organization receives no funding from Pope (and the Pope foundation records show none). But when Allison's group hosted a forum on school choice featuring Milwaukee charter schools guru Howard Fuller recently, John Locke and the other Pope groups lavished it with publicity, helping turn out an audience of 700—which made for a positive story in the Carolina Journal: "At Meeting, Charter Struggle Compared to Civil Rights."

Steven Long is the assistant treasurer of the North Carolina Republican Party. Hmm... it's like this supposedly nonpartisan social welfare organization is just staffed with the NC Republican Party leadership...

You can reach him at stevenlong@parkerpoe.com.

Hey, look, here's the mugshot of Adam Kenneth Dickson, son of Howard K Dickson Jr. He was arrested in Wake County back in December for failure to appear in court on an earlier charge. So he's a lawbreaker too... just maybe not with any political purpose...?

Re: “Who's who at Civitas? Let's name names

You guys failed to mention that

a) the President of Civitas Action gets over $80,000 a year for 4 hours of work a week. A little excessive for a nonprofit? Don't they have to have comparative data justifying that kind of salary? Yes they do.

b) 501(c)(4)s are supposed to engage only in limited political activity. However, here's the bio of the director of their only outside contractor, which specializes in Republican election mailing campaigns:

"In April 2010, Capelli struck out on his own to form Desumo Strategies, Inc. During the 2010 election cycle, Capelli worked with the North Carolina Republican Party (Senate), NC Civitas Action (House and Senate), Montana Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (House and Senate), Montana Republican Party (House and Senate), Tennessee Republican Party (House), Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (House), and the Alabama Farmers Federation (House and Senate), as well as over 100 individual campaigns to help Republicans capture or expand majorities in their respective Legislatures."
