NC is seceding from the union, one step at a time. The process is a 19th century term- nullification . Affordable health care for the poor; depriving children of early education; turning our schools into an intellectual sweat shops filled with underpaid teachers; poor kids with inadequate health care and nutritional programs. Our wolf-in sheep's clothing governor's solution is to turn over everything over to the market and their new version of laissez-faire economics> This is beyond trickle down economics and Laffer curves. It is gulley washer economics and a Criers' curve.
But I will hand it to these folks- they have managed to convince a lot of disenfranchised people to vote against their immediate and long term economic, social and educational interests in favor of an ideology that sees the US Government as its greatest enemy. The government is a threat to "our culture and our way of life", and must be stopped even if we have to shoot ourselves in the foot to do it.
I will swallow my pride and agree with Pat Buchanan seems prescient today. We are fighting a culture war and need make sure 2014 doesn't solidify the slow political, cultural and intellectual secession that was expanded in 2012. We need to keep a close on the polarization and intensity of rhetoric. We didn't in the 1860's.
