[According to Christopher Heagarty, executive director of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission, there has been "a disturbing rise in the number of outbursts, protests and threats being made against judges, and these have to be taken very seriously."]
With all due respect, Mr. Heagarty, you should be ashamed to defend this man. His poor grammar, cavalier attitude, verbal abuse of the litigants, and general disrespect of the profession are on display for the entire world to see, and you defend him by saying outbursts must be taken seriously? Are you kidding me? She never would have burst out had he not ordered her removed from her children for 24 hrs because she disagreed with him verbally and shook her head. He jumped the gun and baited her and she responded. He has the highest responsibility in the room and he failed. In my opinion, this court fails daily toward this end, and the NC Judicial Standards fail as well when they defend such blatant abuse of power.
I used to see this kind of behavior all the time with foster parents who wondered why their foster child spiraled out of control after they had dropped to the child's level and lost their professionalism. This judge uses bad grammar and bad manners and is completely unprofessional when he calls this couple idiots and then threatens to send her to the Durham Bed and Breakfast. He comes across as a pompous southern backwoods bigot, and then expects that the litigants should show him respect that he does not show himself, the profession, or the courtroom. Wow! I have been to Durham Family Court and it is a joke- every day. How these people get to be judges is beyond me. Teachers would not be allowed to behave this way to their students and parents, why should a judge get to act this way?
