I absolutely despise this company. The people I bought my house from wouldn't let me see their water bill before I bought the house. I now know why. I had always been used to paying $20-40 per month for water and sewer and had no idea that water could cost as much as electricity. As a single man I pay around $100/month for water and sewer, sometimes as much as $150. I don't use much water at all. There's a $66 flat rate sewer charge. They constantly put forth rate cases and the price just keeps going up. I don't have any problems with water quality that I know of, thankfully. They also stopped sending me bills monthly. Now I only get a 10-day shutoff notice about every 3 months. I would use auto bill-pay as I do for every other bill I have but I don't trust them enough to give them access to my checking account. From what I've seen they'd end up emptying it and then blaming me.
The privatization of the water supply is a scourge on the citizens of the world. Some things should not be done for profit. This is on the top of the list. A few communities have successfully taken back their water supply. Aqua needs to be run out of NC on a rail. Everyone needs to file a formal complaint with the NC Utilities Commission and lobby their local governments to take over the water systems served by Aqua, Inc.
