Re: “Cameron Village, prepare for traffic jams

Routing the cars into the Cameron Village residential neighborhood in order to solve the traffic problems created by Oberlin Road over-development is not right and not fair. I sincerely hope that is not the path our city is taking to address mounting traffic issues. Damaging residential neighborhoods for the sake of overly dense developments is a dangerous precedent to set for all of Raleigh.

Not only will all Daniels St residents have to hear the noise and breathe fumes from this increased volume of traffic, but the cars will pass less than 30 feet from windows and doors of Cameron Village II Condos and the headlights from these cars will shine onto single family homes when they exit onto Daniels St. Almost all who live on Daniels must back out of their driveways or parking spaces and it’s a safety issue now, even without the increase in traffic.

Property values will be affected and so will quality of life. City Council should vote NO on this re-zoning. Traffic problems that are generated by a developer of an Oberlin Road high density project should not be passed on to become the problems of the residents of the historic Cameron Village neighborhood.

  • Cameron Village, prepare for traffic jams

On one small road, three high-density apartment projects totaling more than 800 units, with parking decks, are being built in an area that's already congested. And more development is coming—but, so far, not better bus service. Is this a good idea?
