Yes, Mr Geary, there is indeed such a rule in the NCDP rules.

Also, the Voller campaign has a message for all Democrats in North Carolina.

At the Voller for Chair Campaign,we sympathize with Eric, and are thinking of his mother, and understand that family comes first.

Randy Voller also has this message for all NC Democrats:
Now is the time for all Democrats to stand united, and Randy Voller is the man who can bring people all of walks of life together. He is the man who can unite and lead the NCDP for North Carolina, by North Carolinians.

This has been his reason for running this campaign from the beginning, and now, in this time of trial for Eric, he stands ready to serve this Party going forward. We should all stand united behind him.
