I don't care what anyone says about marketing promotions. A crowd that size on a day that you have ECU-UNC football in Chapel Hill and NCSU football (at virtually the same time) speaks volumes to me about the growth of the sport and the franchise in the area.

Re: attendance. I know folks shouldn't look for excuses, but to get more than 3K on a Saturday when State (vs. FSU), UNC (vs. VPI) and Duke (vs. UVa) had home football games is impressive, in my opinion.
