Cars cost .30/ passenger mile. Buses cost $1/ passenger mile. Light Rail costs ~$3/passenger mile. Ask yourself: at what cost does this become a bad idea?
There are already three buses an hour going between Durham and Chapel Hill (TTA and Robertson). They're adequately ridden, and can easily be expanded if demand warrants.
Why not add a couple of buses (They cost $500k a piece, .05% the cost of the rail system), skip the drama and save the BILLION for better uses?
Is it just the 'cool factor' that drives such irrationality?
