The Doris Day / Rock Hudson comedies need to be viewed from the time they were made and are classy sexy films - not "kitch" or "outrageous" - compare them to the other romantic comedies made at the time (the majority of which) fail to come alive in the way the DAY/HUDSON films do. Hence why it is the Day/Hudson films that led to the homage of Down with Love and not say, films like "Designing Women" (Laruen Bacall/ Greg Peck- late 1950s), or, the many Jane Fonda romantic comedy films done in the 1960s.
The Hudson/Day films are in a different league - and deservedly are gaining classic status - especially Pillow Talk and Lover Come Back.
