A vote for Doucette is a vote for Louis Pate. I understand that the Independent is trying to assert some sort of maverick tendency in the NC Senate 22 race, but it's a poor choice. You assert that repeal of HB 2 is a top priority. How does endorsing any Republican get you to repeal? It doesn't.
The same logic you use to justify this endorsement could be used to justify endorsing Jill Stein or Gary Johnson at the top of the ballot. If the stakes are as high as you say, this is not the time for quirky downballot endorsements.
The lede is "the Republican stranglehold on Jones Street must end!", and then they endorse on the basis of wanting at least one sensible Republican.
Laughable. That's not how this works. Somebody ought to explain that you don't win a majority by giving up seats, especially when they are to be filled by capable public servants such as Mike Woodard. His opponent would caucus with the Republicans, that's all you need to know.
I remember when Pat McCrory was lauded as a sensible, sane Republican. There's no such thing. Of all the races you could pick to make a contrarian endorsement, this is a poor choice. Hopefully it won't amount to anything.
Great story, and absolutely right that the whole point of this exercise is to gin up some conservative voter turnout. Hopefully, this will backfire, and folks will see this as the bigoted partisan play that it is.
