Your tagline claims you offer “progressive news, culture and commentary.” Would you care to explain what is so progressive about “poking fun” (hardly) at a group of North Carolina artists by labeling their picture with the sign of the Antichrist? (As seen here: http://www.indyweek.com/imager/b/topstory/…)
Are you really so deliriously obsessed with your publication’s notoriety that you will stoop to any level in hopes that it increases your site traffic? Or is it that you’re just so unprofessional a publication that you don’t mind slinging religious insults around?
These are real people in that picture, with real lives and real beliefs. Just because they are enjoying a rising popularity that you can’t get behind doesn’t make them deserving of such an intensely personal and sick joke as this, no matter how much you dislike their music.
But beyond your going-too-far disrespect for the members of Delta Rae, Oh Progressive Newspaper, you have also maligned a much-revered cultural tradition by in one breath mocking the band’s Dia de los Muertos-inspired video, and in the next, implying an association between this and the Antichrist. Great job.
I don’t know what your vendetta is against this band, but it increasingly appears that the more you indulge in it, the more faux-progressive and locally unsupportive the Independent Weekly is revealed to be.
You're so right, there's nothing at all eclectic or interesting about what Regina Spektor does (not to mention other label mates Tegan & Sara).
And if only the Delta Rae video had featured the blonde singer bound in chains *herself* and led by a *racially mixed* group of hooded figures, there wouldn't have been cause to accuse the band of ignorantly racist underpininngs.
Oh wait......there is, it did, and there wasn't.
