Otto- the free market we had before regulation was one where children worked 8 hours a day and adults worked more than a dozen hours a day. Pay was excruciatingly low, while working conditions and benefits were virtually nonexistent.
A combination of early regulatory acts and committees along with unions turned it into something habitable for a brief time until certain corporations were able to establish themselves as monopolistic across the US.
