Great read and immensely informative. I have just moved to NC from Georgia, and almost refuse to use the ABC stores here. Price fixing, limited selections, are among the reasons I stock up while in other states and purchase liquor online where unfortunately for NC, they dont get to tax or pull profits from.
SGraff, Doesn't the article also state that the wine/beer portion in NC is done through a traditional non-gov't run 3-tier system? So it's not necessarily the ABC boards fault those beers aren't available here but the distributors/wholesalers
Does anyone have more info on groups/associations that are trying to abolish NC's ABC board? Maybe a facebook page should be started?
Re: “Life, death, and the consequences of executive decisions”
The point of the cited article was not an abandonment of Obama means a vote for Romney and that we're limited to a 2-party system. How did this article completely skip over any mention of Gary Johnson or the Libertarian Party? Being that it was the whole conclusion to the original article.
It is only a 2-party system if we continue to vote using "lesser of two evil" practices. There are more choices, if you choose to see them. The more support they get, the more money and power they get. Our founding fathers expressed their distaste to party based systems for exactly the reasons we've seen in government for close to 200 years. Even the debates are a 2-party system, created by a panel of repubs and democrats with regulations that limit involvement by 3rd parties. The debates are sometimes the only way these candidates can get their message out there.
