Are there any research jobs coming w/ this new $56 million upgrade?
Removing trees from forest plots is not a bad thing. It's just a tool. If loblolly pines are being cut, that's not a bad thing. Loblolly is actual an invasive species outside of the coastal plain. historically, it didn't exist very much in the piedmont until abou 150 years ago. Not much wildlife uses loblolly pine for food either. It's more of a nuisance tree, especially when it is in a plantation, as your picture suggests it is. I'm about as liberal as it gets and opposed to bad forest management, but clearcutting is just a tool, it's not bad by itself.
100% Truth! Thanks for this article.
Re: “N.C. State wants to sell its largest forest and invest the proceeds in Wall Street”
Nice post Goaglen. Who knows if the UNC system will need a college campus there in 50 years indeed. There's no telling what the future will hold. But if NC State sells the land, you know for sure that the land will be managed differently in the future.
