I am with Gerhard on this."Apartheid" must rank as one of the worlds most marketed words precisely because it is an Afrikaans one and hence is exculpatory of the British role in creating it. The fons et origo of apartheid was the Union of South Africa Act passed by the British Parliament in 1909. This is what disenfranchised the indigenous population of South Africa and was the sine qua non of apartheid. The Union was created for Britain to garner and control the mineral wealth of the region. It succeeded.
