I agree that Superintendent Tata needs to become familiar with our school system and not make assumptions based on "how they did it in D.C." I also think that to do that, he needs to listen. I don't agree that Wake County School System is the shining example portrayed. It used to be but it has been going down hill for a long time. I grew up in this school system. My kids grew up in this school system. I have watched the changes. We have lost something important. We have lost a focus on education. We have lost a focus on helping each student be the best he or she can be. That needs to change. Perhaps those who talk of "listening" should practice what they preach and listen to those who voted for the school board majority rather than simply dismiss them as racists and elitists and whatever other form of "ist" they use to diminish the views of those with whom they disagree.
