Re: “Millions of research dollars at stake as Price, Lawson compete for Congress

Enlightened self-interest is essential, and we must recognize that our federal spending is taken from someone else first (or borrowed from our future). That's simply not a sustainable proposition.

Federal spending isn't 'taken'. It's price we pay for living in a civilized society.

We all have a responsibility to contribute to the common good. Paying our taxes (gas, sales, local, state and Federal.....shall I name the ways?) is how most of us contribute.

It IS a sustainable proposition......provided we hire enlightened elected officials.

I'm all for a balanced budget.....provided the wealthiest and the poorest suffer to the same degree.

Can you say that BJ?

Re: “Millions of research dollars at stake as Price, Lawson compete for Congress

It sure as hell won't last long with that attitude, mister.

A democracy that fails to adapt to changing realities WILL fail..........but I don't think it's the voters voting their pocketbooks that we currently have to worry about.

It's the power behind the machine that is aligning the largesse to benefit itself. Capitalism for the capitalists.

It won't work out well.
