Amen, Bob! Folks seek solace behind "the law" whenever something is difficult or unclear. They're our laws, and if (as we're seeing now) they don't work, we can change them!
Of course the real reason most conservative decision-makers would prefer not to give undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship is because that would make our supposed free market economy much more expensive to maintain--legal workers with full rights are much harder to exploit. This does mean that those same decision-makers are also inherently advocating for wage depression and worsening working conditions for U.S. workers, but then, most conservatives have never been too worried about the well-being of "legal" workers, either.
