Thanks to services like Spotify, clued in fans (particularly teens) can be familiar with many of the songs long before the artist gets to their area. They are, as you perhaps once were, obsessive about learning the lyrics , having the look (developed from YouTube watching), etc. Even folks slightly older didn't have this affordance (exactly). You nor Devon Welsh need not be surprised. The kids are clued and the Kids Are Alright.
Unmentioned is how much Valerie Macon padded her resume -- initially a way to promote her books -- then tried to wipe those claims off the net by having her site removed. As noticed in other articles, she lied and overstated her small achievements.
Regardless of quality or a relationship to the Governor, this would be grounds for firing someone from any job in any field.

Now I'm in Serbia - a sort of geek Where's Waldo. Again no IBM research funds expended.
