Though I agree 'being gay' should not be a qualification (or a detraction) for public office, to only point out the comment on Kleinschmidt's sexuality is severely missing the point. Mark serves as the stand out choice for mayor because he is the only candidate with a viable combination of experience, compassion, and a commitment to social justice. As a student at UNC, Mark was the ONLY candidate who did not talk down, speak offensively to, or belittle the students at the mayoral debate. He has served on council for 8 years and has been in Chapel Hill for almost his entire life. His homosexuality is not a factor in my decision for supporting him but his experience as a death penalty lawyer, president of the NC ACLU, promise to keep funding social services, and vision for the town, those are the factors informing my decision to vote Kleinschmidt for mayor of Chapel Hill.
