The bill that the ASPCA, an animal control association and about 40 different NC animal groups are backing is not HB27 but Davie's Law (HB6)--named after a dog which survived gassing. Davie's law bans gas chambers completely, the other bill does not.
Because of confusion, several legislators mistakenly signed onto the wrong bill, but now one of the two sponsors and three co-sponsors have now withdrawn their names from HB27. Davie's Law has 23 primary and co-sponsors.
Also, this really isn't controversial at all. About the only people FOR gassing animals are those who somehow have financial ties to it.
A ban on gas chambers has NEVER been introduced as a bill before in this state. 64 NC facilities have already banned gassing, with 32 remaining or mistakenly think it somehow impacts their rights as animal owners (it only applies to UN-owned, unwanted animals).
If you are against gassing animals, please call or email your legislators and simply say, "please support Davie's Law". (If you don't know who your legislators are, you can find out by putting in your zipcode in a box on this page: http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/homePage.pl

Look your beautiful pet in the eyes. They were one of the lucky ones. Sadly, over 200,000 animals aren't so lucky--but we can at least give them a compassionate death, can't we? Honor them, and your pet, by sending that email in support of Davie's Law.
