I happened to see this same performance of Rent. It was my first time seeing it on stage, and my first time at DPAC. I whole-heartedly agree with everything Byron wrote here. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were moved to both tears and full-body laughter on many occasions. I cried several times simply from the sheer beauty of a couple of the voices (specifically Michael McElroy and Gwen Stewart). La Vie Boheme brought the house down, and, to me, anyway, this did not seem like what I would have thought was a typical Rent crowd (lots of "mature" white people who looked like my parents and grandparents). Like Byron, I did not think it felt remotely dated, though I was worried it would. I also worried I would not be able to understand the words, but here I was also pleasantly surprised. More than "pleasantly". It was an experience of a lifetime for me. I cannot imagine that I would have enjoyed it any more had I seen it on Broadway 12 years ago.
Congratulations Amanda! You are in inspiration to us all.
Re: “A food lovers' guide to the Outer Banks”
Great article! Just fyi, we don't call Croatan Highway (158) "the big road", we call it "the bypass". :)
