Re: “The INDY’s Endorsements for Orange County Schools and Affordable Housing Bonds

I agree totally with the previous post. The housing providers and officials in Orange County have a strong track record of effectively utilizing available funds to provide affordable housing. The missing ingredient for greater success is funding. You can't expect limited resources to be spent on developing shovel-ready plans before the funding is even made available. I'm a builder. I can build you a house. But I'm not creating house plans for you until I know I'm going to build the house. It's disappointing that this desperately needed and modest amount of funding did not get your endorsement.

Colin Powell never was an accomplished statesman He's been a huckster and a pimp all his professional life.

Re: “Chapel Hill's Pedersen to retire?

Pedersen getting credit for building "eco-friendly" schools is a joke. He resisted the concept for years until the local advocates for environmentally built schools finally prevailed.

Re: “The next hot spot for drilling could be the N.C. coast

We may need an ad hoc defense force to defend our coast. Our own navy that will protect us from corporate assault. I'm serious.

Re: “Orange County voting guide

There have been a lot of suspensions from spring athletic teams by Cedar Ridge High School administration for alleged alcohol & drug use. None of the suspensions involved incidents on school property or actual criminal charges. Furthermore, these suspensions were ordered without parental input or any sort of due process.

Many parents of athletes at the school, including me, are attempting to rein in a process that we believe has gone over the line and ill-serves the students. We are also concerned that the way the suspension policies are being executed leaves the School Board vulnerable to an expensive and embarassing lawsuit. We sent a communication to the School Board and surprisingly received no replies. The word is that they wanted to get the election behind them before dealing with this.

Chair Anne Medenblik and member Debbie Piscitelli are incumbents running for another term. Neither one felt an obligation to respond to the large number of parents who voiced concerns to them.

Re: “Sidebars: Which Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate can beat Burr?

The article stated that there were few differences between the candidates. There is a huge and important distinction - Marshall opposes the obscene and treasury-draining Afgan War, while Cunningham & Lewis are in favor of this travesty.

Re: “Which Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate can beat Burr?

Huge difference between the candidates. Marshall is the only one to oppose the Afghan War, an obscene campaign that is creating chaos and death over there while draining our money at an alarming rate and exacerbating(or is it a root cause?) the decline of our society. To support the Afghan War is to turn a blind eye to innocent deaths, the record corporate profits of the war industry, and the "prime directive" of U.S. foreign policy for the past half century.
