Horrible article- No thanks for spewing your subconscious infatuaton for a man who went against everything I thought you stood for. You claim to be progressive yet quasi praised the very man who was against gay rights, womens rights, the right to freedom of religion or from religion. The right to an education and so on. Writting against the cultural grain I think not. While I do not condone the way many reacted, I would neither scold nor reprimand as if I were the supreme Law of Morality. You talk of psychology yet forget the very simplistic emotions of Human behavior. "American Exceptionalism"??? Very over reaching and Very disappointing on this occassion!!!
I wish I could have been there. It was the moment of a lifetime...
Please forgive my Spelling and my tone from my comment.. It is late at night and I just came home from working second shift.. I just want to make sure the facts are clear.
Guantanamo Bay also has the Naval Atlantic Meteorologic and Oceanographic Command Center, Naval Communications Center, Defense Dependents School, and a Red Cross Station. Guantanamo Housed, Clothed, Fed, and was a medical station for 60,000 political refugees that fled the political violence and unrest in Haiti and Cuba in September of 1994 when up to 2,000 US personel were evacuated to make room for the operation. Guantanamo is lease is INTERNATIONALLY recognized as being valid thru the lease agreement that was signed in 1903 that states the " Both parties MUST be in mutual agreement for the lease to be terminated". The United States has not agreed in part due to the CUBAN MISSLE Crisis that was invoked during the DEMOCRATIC Presidential term on John F Kennedy. It was then deemed to be of the upmost importance to "maintain a presence there for our national sovernty and defense". So we continue to this day under the advisment of John F Kennedy.. both Democratic and Republican Parties alike...to maintain a presence there LEGALLY... GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT PLEASE BEFORE YOU COMMENT MISS INFORMATION!
Oh yeah I remember Bush specifically "No Light Rail in Raleigh".. I mean seriously are you going to peg every single thing that did or did not happen on Bush??? We have had a DEMOCRATIC Congress for the last two years... Hey my sink is still leaking and I need to but air in my right front tire and someone needs to replace the a light bulb in the lamp at my bank... " That Damn Bush"! I agree with what has been said before.. Raleigh is too spread out. Mabey in Carborro or Chapel hill will people put up with driving or bussing to a pick up station.. Hang out for the light rail for ten to twenty minutes.. take half an hour after the other stops to get to your destination to go 5, 10, or 20 miles.. no one I know of in Raleigh will do it... Welcome to REALITY!!
Since the issue in which the article in questions was written "the pink issue" perhaps ILLEGAL could have been inbolded and inserted in pink in front of immigration in every instance within the story. I am neither left or right of this conversation. As a Constituionalist I see only the fact that ILLEAGAL immigrants are here well ILLEGALY? Constitution- Amendment XIV, Section 1. All Persons born or NATURALIZED in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction therefore are citizens of the United States and the state wherein they reside. I myself am not against IMMIGRATION just against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. The right to assemble is also a Constitutional Right. I personally do not think that the activists there were ANTI-IMMIGRATION, I believe they are ANTI ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, which if most polls available out there from both sides of your media (left and right) are correct, the MAJORITY of AMERICANS (again left and right) are against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. Not IMMIGRATION, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
I am perplexed. If a candidate has the cache to do what needs to be done would party affliation matter? I am neither left nor right as a Constitutionalist I am middle. Are you generalizing the Republican Party??? Not that I mind. Continue to keep an open mind. There are amazing people on ALL sides of the asile.
