Re: “The guide to the week's concerts

Hey thanks for letting people know about the time capsule shenanigans on Friday, 1/23 at the ArtsCenter! Opening the night at 8pm, Skip Elsheimer will show some A/V Geeks archival films about TIME; Midtown Dickens is next; Billy Sugarfix will then treat us to a theremin concert; and Felix Obelix around 10:30pm. Thanks to the Orange County Arts Commission for grant funding for this night! See you all there! Wendy & Felix Obelix

Re: “Triangle Soundpainting Orchestra at The Pinhook

But thanks for writing us up! And no worries, people have been confusing oboes for clarinets since caveman days. It rolls off my back like water off a baby seal. Wendy

Re: “The guide to the week's concerts

The Lisps are one of my all-time favorite bands in America currently. They play deconstructed vaudeville tunes and are fun to watch and great folks. Please go see them at 9:30pm this coming Wednesday. This is my non-celebrity endorsement of a touring band. I know a bzillion +1 touring bands you've never heard of come through Chapel Hill every year, but this one is worth seeing. You won't be disappointed. Thanks, Wendy

Re: “N.C. Governor's School under pressure from anti-gay group

I am a 1997 GSE alumna and just wanted to add to the chorus of "it was the best six weeks of my life" in which I learned much more about learning itself and about myself, than in did in four years of high school. It was an absolutely essential experience for me, and some of my classmates and I are now professional colleagues, over a decade later. NC would be foolish to do anything to the program - it has been successfully molding the state's future leaders for decades now. If a campaign is ever started to 'save' governor's school (not sure if it's to that point yet), but if it does come to that point, the Independent should write a follow-up article to this one to publicize that campaign. I think our legislators might be overwhelmed by the response from the alumni.
