Funny, but the reason I hear from Democratic voters is that most ballots allow only three candidates, one Right, one Righter, and one Middle. They don't vote because that leaves no one to vote for.
Which party is responsible for that? Well, it was the Democrat, not Republican, leadership who kicked Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader out of the 2008 presidential race for being too popular. Kucinich is the only debater in any year since the debates were real to receive standing ovations--each of the few times he was briefly allowed to speak. With support and escaping assassination, he could have been president today.
The only reason Democrats get any votes is that people ignore Ralph Nader and vote for "the lesser of two evils." Eighty percent of the 99 Percent want what he and Kucinich espouse because that's what's in their best interest. Republicans just defame such ideas. Democrats try to pass off Big-Capital-friendly versions. We simply must roll up our sleeves and get more parties--Progressive, Green, Socialist--on the left side of the ballot, especially in North Carolina.
You go, Christina! For such a folksy company, Blue Bell's website is sure secretive. The links for who they are don't mention any people, and the history link is disabled! I finally dredged up a customer comment form, where I made our complaint and got no reply. Later I resent it as a letter (there's no edress), which still hasn't been answered. Just who are these people?
Yes, Blue Bell is just as good as cracked up, but hasn't anyone noticed that--at Walmart, at least--it is loaded with h***f***c***s*** (high fructose corn syrup)? This stuff is a GM product and seriously bad for adults and children, causing early-onset diabetes and a sort of addiction in kids. (Now that all agribis corn is GM, so is regular corn syrup, also in Blue Bell--ubiquitous, in fact.)
Sorry, I'm not always a party-pooper.
I can't pull up consumersagainstratehikes.org or ncwarn. org , either. Anybody else having that problem?
I should definitely read the article before I post a comment, but my reading was backed up and my glimpse at the article caused a knee-jerk comment.
Where did Hal hear that David Price lost? Both NCBOE and the N&O show final results with Price almost 40,000 votes over Larson. What could have happened in 20 minutes? Hope Hal is wrong.
As a fan of both Jon and Stephen, I had great enthusiasm for this event even though I was limited to watching on my pc because I am old and can no longer afford either basic cable or a trip to Washington. I watched in increasing dismay as carefully researched, factual criticisms of the Right from the Left were equated and lumped together with the corresponding lies from FOX and the Tea Party. While I agree that Olbermann and Maddow spend too much time dwelling on the foolishness, libel, and incitement-to-violence of the likes of Limbaugh, Palin, and Beck, left wing calls for ending imperialism, indictment of the Bush regime, restoration of human rights and civil liberties, or mobilization of the defense of our climate are hardly insane rantings, lies, or name-calling.
The three hours spent bewailing our country's crippling polarization passed devoid of even the slightest mention of the glaring cause of the schism or even of critical issues. During Jon's equally empty and even truthy closing speech, I began to realize what I had been sucked into: We were all participating in a three-hour promotion of Comedy Central! This wasn't an effort to resolve political differences, but a pitch for Comedy Central over MSNBC and FOX--simply one corporation against the competition for ratings. Koch Industries created the Tea Party to make fools of the benighted, and now Viacom has done the same to us who should know better. If Jon and Stephen wanted to save our country, they would grapple with the well-founded fears of the sane that our erstwhile democracy is being supplanted and dismantled by a corporate plutocracy for the sole purpose of taking all our money and that, if liberals don't find a way to get through to the mad hatter, dormouse dittoheads--and their appeasers--, we shall lose our climate, and fascism (not socialism) will prevail for real. But Viacom, as one of the plutocrats, is hardly going to pay them to spread that word.
