The Libertarian Party has successfully lobbied for election law improvements in the state legislatures of over half the states, including North Carolina. Some years ago the North Carolina legislature removed wording on the petition that implies the signers are members, which made it tough for newly qualifying parties to get signatures on their petitions. Also the legislature removed the discriminatory provision that said only parties with 1% of the registration should be listed on the state income tax form for taxpayers who want to send a small contribution to their favorite party. Both changes are because of Libertarian Party activity. Unfortunately this year's bill completely abolishes the state income tax checkoff form.
The article above says Cynthia McKinney got about 153,000. Actually the FEC said she got 161,603. That was the FEC's January 22, 2009 tally. Their final final tally still isn't out but will be a miniscule bit higher.
Seah Haugh testified that the Libertarian Party has won a partisan race in North Carolina...county surveyor in Harnett County. Also both the Green and Libertarian Parties have won plenty of partisan races in other states.
