While I'm in agreement with many of these endorsements, one in particular is very troubling to me. The endorsement of Hampton Dellinger for lieutenant governor is disappointing. I've followed this race fairly closely and am disturbed by the recent Dellinger advertisement. The idea that he says he would push to bring home all of the NC Natl Guard troops from Iraq is insulting. Of course I am against the war and want our troops home now, but I also understand the way the military works and find this comment to be voter pandering of the most insulting form. In the same ad he implied that he was the only LG candidate to be endorsed by law enforcement and environmental groups. I know for a fact that fifty plus sheriffs endorsed Dalton and as for environmental groups, the Sierra club endorsed Besse. One of the reasons I've been attracted to this race is that I think it's a pretty interesting one with more than one good candidate to choose from. I like Dalton, Besse and especially Smathers and would have understood any of them receiving the endorsement, that it went to Dellinger, especially with the most recent ad, is a mistake. I appreciate candidates who speak openly and present new ideas and I have a real problem with those, like Dellinger, who are deceptive and dishonest. I really hope this guy doesn't win because he's going to be bad for NC!
