Amidst several glaring oversights, Mr. Greenberg states that it was "important...to stop Saddam Hussein and his (WMDs)." Does he not know that the U.S. hired, groomed, and created the thug Saddam starting from the late 1950's? And does he not know that "we" (meaning the U.S.) sold WMD to the Iraqis in their ostensible war against the Iranians, to whom we were also supplying weapons? As he seems to be unaware of these things, I suggest he look into it. Greenberg can start with Iran-Contra and move to the Ford administration with Donald Rumsfeld as the emissary sent to Saddam in order to secure the bargain. And 'secure it' he and others certainly did. All else is re: Saddam's threat is, uh, Bushwa.
A balanced article, Lisa, but for this: "Would our enemies, such as Iran, take advantage of the leadership instability?" How have you ascertained that Iran is 'our' enemy? One might suppose that Haiti, Nicaraqua, Grenada, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico, Egypt, Chile, Argentina, Iraq, etc., are also 'our' enemies, if one listens only to the "necessary illusions" of U.S. administrations and their dogs of war.
Re: “WMDs are in Fantasyland”
A 'Who Will Tell the People?' addition to the fantasyland of Stuart Greenberg, he states that it was "important...to stop Saddam Hussein and his (WMDs)." Does he not know that the U.S. hired, groomed, and created the thug Saddam starting from the late 1950's? And does he not know that "we" (meaning the U.S.) sold WMD to the Iraqis in their ostensible war against the Iranians, to whom we were also supplying weapons? As he seems to be unaware of these things, I suggest he look into it. Greenberg can start with Iran-Contra and move to the Ford administration with Donald Rumsfeld as the emissary sent to Saddam in order to secure the bargain. Just business as usual.
