More about JANEL AND ANTHONY:
"Janel & Anthony - cello and guitars respectively - play a haunting and humbly virtuosic form of music wherein the elements of electronics, looping, and lo-fi timbres live both in intimacy and in majesty in the same house as acoustic instruments and folk/blues-inspired melodies... both timely and timeless, drenched in intoxicating atmosphere; wan, quiet voices submitting to waves of sonic drama. Who could possibly resist?" —Nels Cline, WILCO

More about TRIANGLE RHYSING: MUSIC FOR MASSED GUITARS:
A joint production of BOAT BURNING and THE WHITE CASCADE, TRIANGLE RHYSING is an original suite for multiple electric guitar ensembles, cello and percussion, composed and conducted by Andras Fekete and Matt Guess. It was first performed in June 2011 at Nightlight in Chapel Hill NC USA.

"When Rhys Chatham, Glenn Branca or any other composer gathers several guitarists—from three to 1,000—in one space, the generally accepted term is "massed guitar symphony." But that phrase puts the guitarists in an unnecessary and incorrect box of polity and high society; indeed, though Chatham and Branca make precisely composed and arranged music, the same impulse that drives a teenager to buy a cheap six-string and plug into a cheap Peavey amplifier isn't so far removed from the impulse behind letting dozens of guitarists do the same. It's catharsis by volume, victory by overtone, glory by sound. To wit, the idea first occurred to Chatham after he saw The Ramones play in New York in the late '70s. Triangle Rhysing explores this idea...as a night of 'shimmering ambient music for multiple amplified guitar mobs, cello, percussion and chance.' Get ready to feel the sound." —Grayson Currin, THE INDEPENDENT

Re: “Improvised Guitar Evening with Andras Fekete, Bruce Stevens, Bryce Eiman, Randy Alley

More about this event:

Four Triangle improvisers come together for two sets of continuously shifting solos, duets and trios -- nearly two hours of uniquely textured sound.

Music begins 9pm.

Strategy for set 1: The first player begins with a solo. After three minutes, a second player joins the first, forming a duet. Three minutes after that, the first player drops out, and the second drops into a solo; three minutes after that, a third player joins the second forming another duet... By seamlessly adding and subtracting players one at a time, the ensemble explores all 14 possible combinations of solos, duets and trios, ultimately finishing the set as a quartet.

Strategy for set 2: This set has two parts: the first characterized by rapidly changing groupings (1 minute per unique group), and the second by a sustained performance by the entire ensemble as a quartet, with the groupings of the first half generated via a 4-bit binary truth table, e.g.
