The fact remains that they indeed did use fraudulent documents to obtain work. The fact remains that if they did indeed use someone else's social security numbers it's still identity theft. The fact remains that they have broken the law not only by being here illegally but also by using (read:stealing) someone's social security numbers and it's time they were prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
As far as illegal immigrants now living in fear it's time they did. For too long illegal immigrants have been able to come to this country without any fear of being arrested or deported. I see little fear in those who go to social services and apply for WIC and food stamps. I see little fear in those who go to our hospitals to have baby after baby. I see little fear in those who flood our public health clinics to the extent that our own citizens who need the services can't get it. I see little fear as they enroll their children in our schools to the detriment of our children's education. To end I think it's about time they feared something and if they are that afraid perhaps they should go back to their home countries before they are forced to.
The article makes it sound like these poor people are innocent of any crimes and how terrible it is that they were arrested at home. Well they aren't innocent. They had stolen someone's identity. Why is it the article didn't talk about the hell those people are going through with the IRS, and the credit bureau? How about the sleepless nights they are having because of this groups actions. They aren't innocent and like any criminal they should be arrested and prosecuted. Would you expect any less if the person was dealing drugs or evading taxes? I wonder how the article would read if Mr. Geary had been one of the people whose identity they had stolen? Where would his support be then for this criminal group?
With the hundreds of illegal immigrants in Carrboro I'm not sure why the department of immigrations is focusing on just one. Would be better to let her stay and arrest the other hundreds.
