Change, or else

Wheelchair-bound Maxie T. Gaines, 69, photographed at a shelter in Georgia Techs Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta. She lived on the 11th floor of an apartment building for seniors in New Orleans East. After three days waving a white flag out her window, she was picked up by a boat on Thursday, transferred to a mail truck, left under a bridge, picked up by an ambulance, taken to another spot on the highway, picked up by a helicopter, taken to the N.O. airport triage unit, slept there two nights, then late Saturday was put on an Air Force jet and flown to Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Ga. Now she says she wants to stay in Atlanta.
