  • Adaptive reuse of historic buildings requires a sensitivity to their particular aesthetics, and an appreciation for odd things in strange places. Eddie Belk, the architect for West Village (and previously for the Brightleaf Square and Erwin Mill conversions), has left the industrial past in evidence everywhere in these buildings and kept all additions in harmony with it. Here the massive brackets that once held shutters for loading door 16 have become simple decorative elements around the portal.
