Re: “One: A Story of Love and Equality

This is a really great effort to capture the views of the equality of love and marriage in the LGBTQ community. I have to commend Becca and Melina for a well put together film to capture the views for ammendment one.. It is obvious they spent a lot of time and effort even when they knew it was a battle just to speak to the community who were for the ammendment.

This is definitely well created and a must see.

You got my vote....NC has its work cut out for it....We must unseat all these evil vile corrupt politicians who have taken over our state and have proceeded to sell us all out to corporations who want to fleece us of our resources and poison our land and water all in the name of profits..Examples... Duke power is one.....the GOP regulators have never met a rate increase they didn't like...also the coal ash spill...well I am sure the regulators will make sure that we pay for the whole thing and not one penny of profits will be used to fix the problem ..why? because McCorys affiliation with Duke power all but guarantees we will be can bet on that...our only weapon is our vote...they cant buy it I vote anything but the above....send them home pass out the pink slips..

Re: “Conservative group demands emails of UNC official after he criticizes Gov. McCrory in newspaper column

The right wing fruitcakes that came into power 2 years ago are scary to say the least..They have constantly changed rules and laws that will keep them in power and stifle any and all opposition to their crazy views....They are moving fast to make this state a conservative only state by making it harder for opposition to even vote...We must defeat these tyrants...our political process has been thwarted by these professors of constitutional freedoms who are anything but....They have sold us out to big oil they have relieved us of our property rights and due process...They cater to all the outside corporations who want to come into our state with impunity and steal all our resources and leave us with nothing but poisoned water and air..While they sail off into the sunset with all the profits....yes McCory and his ilk will destroy this state...Evil must not prevail...Do not believe they're lies the rhetorical bullshit propaganda that it is all about jobs jobs jobs ...ohh no no no its about lies lies lies ....the real truth is its all about they're jobs and how they can entrench they're power and have they're hands on our throats and in our pockets...They got elected fair and square by the existing voting laws we had and once they got in power they started all this bull shit about voter fraud we must stamp out this terrible voter fraud..well if that was true then how did these pieces of shit get elected in the first place? There is no fraud except them...they are the frauds...the posers the pretenders...the liars...the takers....we are the losers...this must change next election..unless the tyrants try to make voting illegal....I bet if they could they would...

Re: “Durham development: What's being built where and who can afford it?

News flash for all the college-educated, creative class types moving to Durham and driving housing prices up and displacing working class, working poor and retirees out of their old neighborhoods. If you don't want to be asshats like the Caktus folks who painted over our downtown mural of the Eno River, then start putting your money where your mouth is (as well as putting pressure on elected officials) to support the only proven way to mitigate gentrification--the Durham Community Land Trust. Land Trust housing stays affordable for generations and allows neighborhoods to retain their diverse character. So write a check to the Land Trust or to a pro-Land Trust official or candidate or you could be a Caktus person. Frank Hyman

Re: “On the uncompromising artifice of influential local painter and professor Marvin Saltzman

So glad I saw this show at the Eno. Some of the work made my jaw drop because it was so powerful; all of it was inspirational to this artist. Far too long ago I was one of Mr. Saltzman's students. Looking back on those student years, I believe he was one of two two-dimensional art profs who deserved to be there (granted, there were a couple profs I never had), and in fact were the reason we all enrolled there. His teaching was solid and he worked closely with those who wanted extra help. Yet the clearest picture of him I have in my mind from those days is him brandishing a double-sided razor bade and free-handedly cutting a mat in one swift stroke. The angels are still singing the beauty of that.

Re: “Live: Nickel Creek carries on in Cary

Nickel Creek's setlist was a great mix of new and old, vocal and instrumental. I was really hoping for a classic crazy interlude during "The Fox," but the mini jam was good too. They did a superb job with the new material from The Dotted Line, but "Hayloft" is pretty terrible as well as being a completely annoying earworm. As much as I was walking in the clouds last night with having the trio back after 7 years, I woke up this morning with that terrible song in my head.

Also, nice work threading "mutual admiration society" in there. Can we have a 10-year anniversary tour from MAS?

Re: “Art Pope's annual salary was $1. That was 99 cents too much.

OMG! A government agency has been closed!!! Treason! We cannot do with less government. How will we live without large, expensive and meddling agencies? Without large fines, business would make too much money, lower the prices of their wares or perhaps hire more people by creating jobs.
Governments jobs are far more desirable than private sector jobs! Everyone knows they pay better, are more permanent and have much better benefits! Don't we need more of those types of jobs?
The private sector be damned!

Re: “Vacancies at Chapel Hill High approach almost 20 percent of staff

We know one of the teachers who left during the summer and the motivation to leave has been building over the last 2-3 years. Any parent who communicates with their student or interacts with their student's teachers (especially the good teachers), should not be surprised by the survey results or the exodus of teachers. Of course there are external factors from the general assembly that provided pressure that increased the probability of leaving, but the survey results are overwhelmingly negative and provide no motivation to stay. I believe one of the survey responses was that teachers at CHHS do not feel they can take their concerns/problems to the administration - which really includes the high school, school system administration, and the school board - without some sort of negative repercussions. And we have had had teachers tell us that and we have seen with our own eyes some of the repercussions of speaking critically. This situation will not be fixed quickly, and students will suffer. If you would have told us 3 years ago when our first son graduated from CHHS that we would be enrolling our 9th grader this year into a private school, we would have told you that you were crazy. But that is our reality today.

Re: “Durham development: What's being built where and who can afford it?

'Plenty of affordable housing"? REALLY? I will be retiring soon and my income will drop to around 28k/yr. I am SO NOT interested in living in substandard housing in substandard neighborhoods. Really not happy about maybe spending my twilight years fending off miscreants coming through the window. Part of the problem is that is is against NC to have set asides so that a small portion of new construction can be set aside for seniors and others with lower incomes. I've been looking and in fact there are VERY few affordable apartments available in Durham.
