When I heard about this forum I just had to chime-in to respond to "Pally Hater". In the bar business, like most everything else in life, you can't please all the people all the time. However, the *majority* of regular patrons that supported the Blue Bayou Club all said that what they enjoyed most about the Bayou, in addition to the world-class music that was presented there, was the positive vibe and sense of comfort they felt in coming to the club.
As the club-owner, when you hear this comment from hundreds of people over a period of years, it becomes pretty obvious that, the people who are largely responsible for the good vibes are the staff. My staff at the Blue Bayou were the most devoted and loyal people that you could find anywhere. I gave them the highest recommendation to Katy when she bought the club. Why she chose not to employ them can only be answered by her.
Now, I've never had a problem with someone if, for some reason, they just didn't like the staff or they felt that the Bayou was not exactly their cup o'tea. Everyone has different tastes and I applaud the diversity of interest. There are plenty of other clubs in the Triangle area to support. Find something you like.
What I do have a problem with is someone hiding behind an anonymous sig and writing disparaging remarks about people; especially when it's about people that are close to me.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I fondly remember a time (pre-internet) when, if someone had a problem with you, they confronted you directly and, to your face, told you what the problem was and the two of you hashed it out. We referred to it as "calling you out." Sometimes it involved a little blood-letting but most often, not. You worked out your differences quickly and privately. To be completely honest, that wasn't always the case. Even then, there were a few lashers-out but, without the intenet, they were mostly relegated to expressing their anger by smearing their own excrement on the walls of public restrooms. Sh*t-daubers, we called them.
So, getting back to my opening point, you, "Pally Hater," can consider this a calling-out. You are an internet sh*t-dauber but your anonymous sig can't hide you from yourself. You have to look at that face in the mirror every day. The folks that made up the staff at the Blue Bayou don't have a problem when they face the mirror.

I've been each year -- it's amazing to see the performing arts community come together in such a beautiful, energizing way, and for such a vital cause. Definitely a great thing to do Friday!
We have never been disappointed. I think that says quite a bit about any restaurant, especially if you have been going to it for 8 years. When they FINALLY got rid of the smokers it made it SO MUCH more pleasant. Running a good restaurant is easy??!! All you need is consistently good food and consistently good service. But that ain't at all easy!! Just last night my wife and I were going to try something new. But with all the trendy new Durham eateries out there we looked up some reviews and almost all of them were either overpriced (for us) or had consistent reviews about poor, slow or arrogant service. So we keep going back to Bennett Point Grill ( enjoying their great food and service) and to Magnolia Grill for those rare, special occasions.
Took the family for dinner - they were running a special for 1/2 price for anything on the menu! Food was good, service very friendly and accomodating. All in all, a great experience

I took business clients to this place last Monday evening and had a great experience. Friendly and casual-- quality, quality food. Great brisket and chicken in addition to the above mentioned pork. Catfish was excellent as well.
The real deal, which is hard to find these days. More expensive than Lexington or Goldsboro, but hey, this is Chapel Hill. And do *you* want to get up at 3 a.m. to fire the pits? Read the interview with Keith Allen in Holy Smoke (UNC Press) and you'll see why it's worth every penny. The huspuppies have been unreliable, but you should save room for the home-made pies and ice cream churned right there.
Wood-cooked pork shoulder -- you can go out back and watch them cook it -- with an array of soul-food sides. Your okra is fried to order, which is a really good sign. Run by a nice collection of folks, too.
OK if you need a roast pork fix and can't get to Allen & Son north of Chapel Hill. This place is leased to someone else, and they don't cook with wood any more, so maybe it shoud be called faux 'cue. (Another wood-cooker in the area is Backyard Barbecue on Hwy 55, just south of i-40.)
Make certain you check your bill before you pay at this downtown Durham restaurant. It used to be one of our favorites, but 2 of the last 3 visits they have overcharged us on menu items. We like their food, but do they think we cannot read?
Great store to browse and shop. They have so many interesting things other stores don't have. The owners are very friendly and helpful. I love Cameron's!
I made reservations for a party of 35 at Sparians 3 weeks in advance. I received a call from management the night before the event asking me to make changes to my reservations. They called me back 4 hours later and said they realized they can still assist me and I can keep my reservations. The day of the event February 19, 2011, I had my entire party of 35 people there and they told me my reservations had been cancelled. We were supposed to eat and bowl. They told me it would be a 3 to 4 hour wait. I saw some available tables and available bowling lanes. I asked mgmt if they would split my group, so we could still eat and bowl. They told us they would not be able to give us a sufficient time line of when we could be seated or bowling until every one that was in line have gotten tables. We waited an hour and they still said it maybe 3 or 4 hours before we could be seated or could bowl. We saw other people walk in without reservations and get a table and a lane. We finally were fed up, and told the management we would leave if nothing were available soon. They said “ok leave”. As we left, we saw 4 lanes available with no one bowling and a significant amount of tables available. The location was not packed at the time we were there. My party of 35 was willing to pay the ridiculous prices for food and bowling. The management and customer service was horrible. The location is pretty but their service, high prices, and customer care is horrible. If they do not change the way they treat their customers, and make adjustments to their prices, they will not be in business long.

The best food in town. Best value, choice and quality. The most unique restaurant in the area at its price range. Home made organic bread made daily says it all.

Nice Place - loved the people, But the bar tender Brandon made it a place I will go back to - perfict drinks every time.
Unless you are a friend or long term customer, expect your custom piece to be put on the back burner. I suggest you get a finished date in writing and a "not to exceed" date. She will probably balk at this but I can attest to the fact that waiting and waiting leaves a bad taste that lingers even after the piece is completed and in your possession. Unless you have a relationship with her, do not go there for custom pieces. If you dont mind waiting up to a year than go for it. Also, keep track of complaints at the Better Business Bureau.
Rude bar staff, but some good bands.
