Re: “Bull City Burger & Brewery

Building a good hamburger appears to be very hard. BCBB uses excellent meat and, hence, has a good pattie but the bun sucks. And, PEOPLE LISTEN TO THIS-- you must also have tomato, raw onion sliced, pickles, crisp lettuce and all the usual condiments of high quality available. Otherwise, you are not making a hamburger. Sure, add other stuff if people want it but you must get the basics down or you are sunk. BCBB is currently sunk.

Re: “Monuts Donuts

The yeast doughnuts are to die for and the fresh baked bagel sandwiches are erfect. The lines might be long, but the wait is worth warm doughnuts, and a perfectly fried egg on my bagel. Extra bonus? the dinosaur table signs to have the correct food delivered and the eclectic mix of coffee mugs.

Re: “Hillsborough Wine Company

I created this ad, and it is obsolete now. I am trying to get it removed. Age Is Just A Number no longer plays at the Hillsborough Wine Company, though we thoroughly enjoyed playing there and recommend the venue highly. Cheers, David Kreimer

Re: “Bull City Burger & Brewery

The burgers here are only okay and are overpriced. Frankly, Cookout is a better burger and a better deal.

I went one and only time and wouldn't go back. The place is highly overrated. The fries were really good, but burger and house brews weren't anything special. I tried bites of two other burgers so even though I only went once I've sampled three.

My biggest issue, however, is that I ordered and asked for tomato on my burger and they said no.

It's out of season, they said.

So in other words, during certain times of the year can you get a burger with a tomato on it. If they're going to do that, they should put a sign up so you don't waste time in line only to get to the register and find out you can't get what you want and what is expected at any serious burger joint that isn't run by poseurs.

Onions aren't always in season. Neither is lettuce. Neither, I'm sure, are the ingredients they use for their brews. I'm sure they have a ton of products not being produced locally. But a guy can't get a tomato depending on whenever the owners decree it so.

And if Bull City Burger is so worried about being freaking organic and local and getting stuff "in season" they can surely grow their own or contract a local farm to do it hydroponically or in a greenhouse. Do they purchase their pepper locally? Is the salt local produced?

They're poseurs. If you're going to deny a customer only one product that many, many people believe is essential to their burger eating experience, simply because it's not locally grown, then don't be a hypocrite and do that with everything.

Sadly, the woman taking my order was arrogant about it as if I were an idiot for wanting a slice of tomato when it so obviously wasn't in season. Perhaps it's because I asked her to explain more than once b/c I'm a big burger fan and having had probably a thousand in my four decades and having been to probably a hundred places I had never experienced something so silly before and asked her to repeat it.

Had I not been with others and had we not already spent so much time in line to get to the register I would have walked out. Frankly, there are better burgers in the Durham area. Cookout, Only Burger, Allen and Sons are probably the top three burgers in the local area.

Re: “Only Burger

The bread was so soggy it became batter. It was clear that the oil the potatoes, onions and pickles were fried in was, at best, very old if not rancid. What a disappointment.

My rating may be biased because I am in the show! Just wanted to let you know the map is wrong, it will take you to the wrong place. How can we fixed this? here is the correct map:

Re: “Mad Hatter Bakeshop & Cafe

Mad Hatter's Bakeshop is a great place for weekend brunch. Their daily omelets are always fresh and delicious. If you're in a sandwich mood, go for the avocado BLT. It's seriously amazing!
My husband and I had them make our cakes for our wedding shower, and they were fantastic. We got chocolate cake with mocha and hazelnut mousse.

Re: “Dean’s Seafood Grill & Bar

Absolutely delicious! The oysters and scallops are fantastic, not to mention, the mac and cheese and white chocolate bread pudding. It was all great! Our waiter was friendly and knowledgable about all the dishes on the menu and the fresh selections of the day. He offered great recommendations and informed us that all of their seafood was no more than 48 hours old.

Re: “Napper Tandy's

I am part outraged and embarrassed for Napper Tandy's. I have heard of this place forever, supposedly one of the MUST Go places if ever in Raleigh's Glenwood Ave Restaurant Row. So yesterday while at an event in the area, my wife and I went to 'da Nappers. I expected an unforgettable experience, and I got one I did not expect.
We made our way downstairs to the Pub. Nothing exceptional except the place was wall to wall tv's (not a bad thing) with loads of different sports events on.
But then it was time to order. My wife got an Irish Whiskey on the rocks, and it came out timely... in nothing but a plastic 8 oz cup... and cost $7.50!
Drinks aside, I decided to order the Fish -n- Chips, my wife went with the Shepards Pie and I was curious and got the Bangers and Mash to take home
My fish was more burnt breading than fish, and forget about cocktail sauce.... you only get tartar as they dont even have cocktail sauce.
The fries... what a joke! Stale, undercooked... definitely fresh out of the freezer. All this for like $12?!
My wife's Sheppards pie was more mashed potatoes than meat and the mashed potatoes tasted watery and no salt, pepper, butter, nothing!. I am certain the mashed potatoes were fresh because it had a chunk of undercooked potato in it. GROSS. This ran I think $13. You gotta be kiddin me!
Then there was the bangers & mash. Mashed potatoes must have come from the same batch.... watery and not a stitch of seasoning to it.. The bangers, what an effing joke. Little more than cocktail weenies.
Obviously this is a pub and they do not concentrate a lot on food. They seem to want to focus more on frozen food fastly made than actually good food reasonably priced.

Napper Tandy's 'repuketation' will be forever in my mind. Those that go to Napper Tandy's, dont go for the food. Go for the sports pub, go for the atmosphere, go for the booze. But stay away from the food.

Oh, Durham. Ohhhh, Lilly's!

I want you to be the best spot in town but every time I try, I am disappointed. It seems like no one really cares.
The pizza is great. The ceasar salad was a soggy mess of lettuce.
The service was horrible. How many times do people have to write that the service was horrible.
I watched the bartender blow his nose (in plain sight of the handwash sink and of customers), drop the paper towel into the trash, then wipe his nose with his hand and then serve me my food. The sink is right there, wash your hands. Please.
Please.
Saved. Thanks!
