Owner Bill West is doing all the right things to make this small venue an important one for his audiences and musicians alike. He's booking quality local music acts as well as regional and national name artists on tour. He's varying the musical genres that are offered. He's trying to make Billsborough a place unique to the Hillsborough and Orange County.
I came here once visiting from Chicago and I wish I could take this venue with me. I had a great time listening to open mic players and the owner Bill is my personal hero.
Low key, friendly, diverse music, and a big dog! All the keys to a great neighborhood bar.
Was very rude oover the phone when I tried to book an appointment. If you are boarding them overnight the dog only gets 30 minutes of playtime each day! Absurd
Don't confuse the one in Cary with the *buffet* in Chapel Hill. There is a huge difference in the food quality and the service. The one in Cary - the manager and two servers were incredibly rude and argumentative with us (after they told us something incorrect about what we ordered - and insisted that I was lying? - later the server who misinformed me apologized that he didn't know the menu, but only after he stood by letting another server yell at me that I was wrong, lying, and going to pay for the dish regardless...?). Food was terrible. Hopefully it was just what I ordered. I had the "Crispy Duck in Garlic Sauce." The duck was not crispy, at all... there was more fat that meat, and the sauce - while tasty had absolutely not even a HINT of garlic in it. All of this after the manager refused to let us have a booth right next to the table where he sat us, insulted us personally, then slammed the menu's down and walked off. We should have left after that. The buffet in Chapel Hill is incredible, and the service always amazing. Don't leave there without trying the Salt Baked Salmon, Hot Spicy Octopus and the Steamed Flounder (which seems to be in some sort of almost sausage a'jus broth). I can't eat much so I don't go to buffet's often, but $7 for lunch, $10 for dinner and complimentary soup... can't beat that.
have spent many, many hundreds of dollars here over the last 10 years. The food is truly special, from the deli salads, to the condiment bar (garlic paste! Load up!) to the astonishingly good bread. But I'm not going back - ever. The service is truly atrocious. I had lunch today with my wife and son. We ordered a fadayer (pizza-like baked pie, really good) to split, while my son had souvlaki. the fadayer showed up, and - after 5 minutes of no souvlaki, we asked- what gives? The dish had been served to an adjacent table, where it had been promptly eaten! The server said he'd rush an order for us - and it took 30 MINUTES to arrive! Really!! I complained to the cashier who had taken our order, and he simply said he was sorry. New servers, what a shame. No, I said, the kitchen slowed this down excessively, too. In any case, I expected them to take the charge off, or offer us SOMETHING, but we got a limp apology, and that was it.
I am really disappointed by this. The food here is really, really good, and I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food in my day, between Armenian spots in SoCal, Palestinian joints across Michigan, and Greektown in Chicago. But they routinely have the WORST service when the place is slightly busy- and when the place is packed, as it was today, forget it. I hate to not eat this great food again - but I won't. Franklin Street is lined with excellent joints (hit up Sandwhich immediately across the street), and I can't be bothered to give these guys more of my $.
Terrible food and even worse management!
The Edwards Mill Grill is a disgusting dump. Under no circumstances would I ever eat there again. I was going to meet up with a small group of acquaintances for an event in that general area, and we planned to go eat afterwards. I did a quick web search for restaurants in that area, and the Edwards Mill Grill came up and had a very good user rating. Well, this is obviously a case where employees and family members have gone on-line and given a place positive reviews, because there just isn’t any other way that this dump could ever get positive reviews. I ordered a burger and a salad, with blue cheese dressing. The quality of the salad itself was unusually good, i.e., fresh, green lettuce. But the dressing was watery and didn’t really taste at all like blue cheese. And it got worse when the burger came. When I order a burger in a restaurant, I expect the texture to resemble what you get if you go to a local supermarket and buy some ground beef at the meat counter, i.e., beef that has been freshly ground there in the store by the butcher. What I do not expect, and will never tolerate, is a patty of something that has been so thoroughly ground that it resembles more of a paste of some sort, that has been reconstituted into a patty. I know that you know what I’m talking about, because this kind of ground meat is not uncommon in cheap restaurants. And it tastes a lot like beef, but not completely like beef, and it is just disgusting. I wasn’t able to finish eating it, and the reason is partly that I was getting sick. It was disgusting. If I had not been with a group, I would have walked out as soon as they brought that burger. But when you are with a group, you can’t do that. When I give a restaurant my business, I do not think that I should be rewarded by having stomach cramps and gas for the next two or three days. I would never, ever eat at this dump again.
Best brisket in town...hands down. Also the make your own burger is the best kept secret in the Triangle. It is worth the wait!!!
Great clean store with a pretty good variety of items and clothing! This store has a good set up and the workers were very friendly and willing to help. I will shop here again!
Connolly has closed Doherty opened Oct 8th 2012. There is not currently open Mic but live Irish music every wed @ 6pm & live music every Friday & Saturday night!
Nice variety on menu. I have tried most of the offerings and have yet to be disappointed. Most everything has been very tasty. My wife and I like to sit at the sidewalk tables outside. I am a stickler for good service and the wait staff at the gulf rim has been genuine, friendly, and not overbearing. My favorite restaurant in Hillsborough, and most of the ones downtown are very good.
Great place to eat, great sushi, and wonderful environment. Not sure why the person above me could not find the manager. I have been enjoying the place for over a year and the managers are always walking around. I drive over an hour to enjoy sushi there every weekend!
My husband and I ate at the Roadhouse recently and the meal was tasty and the service was superb!! While there were the usual hiccups on opening day, they have worked out all the bugs and our dining experience was most pleasant. This restaurant is NOTHING like the old General Store Cafe; not only in decor but in particular with the food and service. They have continued not only the music nights but have continued to be involved with benefit events and recently sponsored a "Meet and greet" buffet where folks could come and meet our elected officials. They are offering 10% off your meal from now until election day if you wear your "I voted today" sticker. We love it that Greg Lewis also supports local farmers to supply some of the food used in their menus. You rock Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store!!!

My wife and I have been to Piedmont several times since it opened, so I suppose our experiences have covered the history of the place. While we have never had a bad meal there, the service has always been the weak spot. Last night was the first time with the new chef. She had the clams with mint fettucini and I had the sausage penne. Both entrees were the best we have ever had at Piedmont. Dessert was retired beer malt ice cream over chocolate cake and a sourdough chocolate cake. Both were amazing. The only things keeping me from posting 5 stars are having to pay for the bread before the meal and a forgotten dessert spoon!
nice, very nice. my kind of place
Re: “Billsborough Live Music Hall”
An awesome venue. So glad someone opened up the old Blue Bayou. It's very friendly and the music is outstanding.Don't forget that it is also dog friendly.
