If there is anyone out there who is surprised by the arrogant, ignorant rantings of the bully from Mecklenburg, you probably weren't listening because he was in the minority party. He has power now, which is a dangerous ingredient to the already toxic admixture described.
What should really be getting news coverage is her actions after this "scandal." She held a staff meeting where she proceeded to reprimand the entire faculty and turned it into a religious speech. She quoted bible verses throughout her presentation and also made a comment of how she doesn't have to say Happy Holidays in the south, she can just say Merry Christmas. She spoke to the staff at length about how this was trial God was putting her through, but she knew God had a plan for her and the school. She gave a powerpoint presentation and every slide spoke of God and she offended many staff members who are not christian.
Cats are my favorite Broadway show which I am still watching from many years and I still love it.http://www.ohshow.net
And looks like if sex is going on their mojo is covered!
Practical programmer: This appears on the editor's blog (not on Page 1), which documents the streets of the Triangle primarily through photographs. Somtimes the subject matter is serious, such as the portrait of the homeless man from last month; sometimes it's artful, such as the hanging of the holiday wreath at American Tobacco, and sometimes the content is light-hearted, such as this one.
We need some levity and humor in this world. We don't really think sex is happening in the Museum Hotel, at least not yet.
Is there no oversight at about what is published? This is hardly a "page 1" story. Nothing but innuendo without any substance at all.
Very admirable, trying to hurt someone's business because you have a political disagreement with them. How do these people look themselves in the mirror??
Why are Progressives so self-righteous and why does the INDY enable them?? As Cromwell's rules states it, "I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible that you may be mistaken." This is the humility Progressives lack.

According to Forbes most recent list of the 400 wealthiest Americans, the wealth of the super-rich has grown during the last year. Meanwhile, as the wealthy get wealthier, the middle class continues to reduce in size, widening yet more the gap between the rich and the poor. "Are these people serious? That's close to $32,000 a year for a 40 hour work week. I know people with college degrees who don't make that much in their current (professional) jobs." Sounds like this commenter got it backwards. Getting $32,000/year for 40hrs/week is enough to be comfortable for a single person in most parts of the country. That's not too much to ask but it sounds like those degree holders working in their field aren't making what they're worth either. If the top 1% of wage earners weren't hogging 50% of the nations wealth wages could come up at all levels. Remember who the real enemy is.
Thanks for commenting, Sloan! What Duke is doing this season is no accident. Although there are probably no first-team All-America candidates, it's a team with no glaring weaknesses. None. Now the challenge is to sustain.
I'm all for a higher minimum wage here in NC (and federally as well), but $15 an hour to work in fast food? Are these people serious? That's close to $32,000 a year for a 40 hour work week. I know people with college degrees who don't make that much in their current (professional) jobs.
I hope this is on the school board behind closed doors agenda for thursday. While others in her position have had the sense to resign (hard to say if they were forced out), she mocks the issue. Her thanksgiving message to faculty apparently contained lifted works as well. The district is currently on record saying this is much ado about nothing. What is the message to the students?
I'm not familiar with the information you mentioned. But apparent sea level may rise or fall at any particular location depending on whether that area is subsiding or lifting, that is, whether geological forces are pushing the land up higher or allowing it to sink lower. That happens often, can vary by location and can change over time. So while the total volume of water in the oceans may be increasing due to thermal expansion and melting ice sheets and glaciers, what actually happens to "sea level" as measured at any particular spot also takes into account the subsidence or lift experienced by that spot. That's why there's all sorts of evidence that can appear to be contradictory, but in reality it's complications caused by variations in subsidence and lift. Satellite measurements of sea level are made independently of subsidence or lift, so are more accurate indicators of the actual level of the water in the world's oceans. The problem is that satellite measurements only go back a couple of decades. Hence the study I cited where the scientists tried (successfully) to match up the satellite measurements with recent coastal sea level gauges (subject to but corrected for subsidence and lift). When you can match up the two (coastal gauges and satellite measurements), then you can try to use the much older and longer record of sea level gauges to compare rates of sea level change in the past with current rates of change.
Reading all this, I just had this thought.
Most everyone agrees that Sea Level has been rising very very slowly since the last Ice Age (glaciation) , and even NOAA and Sea Grant acknowledge that there has been " no signal" of acceleration for the NC coast. So why have we had an acceleration of Accretion by 11% and a 13% decline of erosion of NC Sea shore since 1980? Irrespective of acceleration, why do we have more Accretion and less Erosion if Sea Level is rising? Or is all this just mumbo - jumbo Political FoSi?

Dear Dave Burton,
Before you say I am mistaken, please read the rest of the article! You merely quote from the article's Introduction, where the authors summarize PAST work in the area. If you had any scientific training, you might have known that.
"To reconcile the nearly factor of 2 difference in the tide gauge and altimeter global rates, reconstructions of global sea level from tide gauges have been made using empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) obtained from satellite altimeter data..."
---this sentence you quoted ended with this reference to a paper, (Chambers et al. 2002). It is Chambers et al. in 2002 who used the satellite altimeter data.
Merrifield, Merrifield, and Mitchum, the authors of the 2009 paper I cited, used tidal gauges for both time periods, and verified that the tide gauges agreed with the satellite altimeter data. You might read through to the Methods, Results, and Summary and Discussion sections next time you look at a scientific study if you want to understand what they did, what they found, and what it means. You won't find that in the Introduction.
As a Hokie I really wanted us to go to the ACC Championship but respect the fact that Duke beat us and now they are going on . SO as a gift to all Duke fans I did come across this as I was browsing for Cyber Monday http://www.teespring.com/bluedevils
You ARE more than just a basketball school now.
The Pittsboro three ring circus is usually served by its own pitiful media without help from the Indy so this is an exception. This matter, didn't 'pop' up on the agenda, it was 'forced' onto it by Mr. Smiths planner consultant. Mr. Culpepper or Mr. Voller. As stated in the comment above, this was publicly observable beforehand, so the 'surprise' (as you report it) is reactionary poor reporting. Mr. Clark, dId you ask the town manager or clerk about it ?
Having read many minutes of the previous meetings on this matter, I find Mr. Smith's wrongheaded claims that citizens concerns are 'generalities' and that they should 'come with specifics', as insulting and plain stupid. The concerns and questions are clearly and 'specifically' stated in the meeting minutes, thank you Mrs. Lloyd. One need only listen and/or read them. Mr. Smith continues to ignore these specific concerns and questions, and rather than provide simple concrete answers to them, he continues to undermine his and his developments credibility. Again, Mr. Clark a little bit of investigative digging and reporting effort would reveal this.
Though he served the town well enough, the outgoing Mayors assurances on behalf of Preston partners is standard developer speak, and typical of his industry brand of self serving indulgent egoism wrapped in political theatre. We'll be glad to see the back of him. IMHO, the circus's, biggest well meaning blow hard - Jeffrey Starkweather, is the one who'll sink the concerned citizens of Pittsboro Matters flotilla; they'll never get a word in or be heard at meetings. Though I agree with the intent of Pittsboro Matters, Mr. Starkweather should disqualify himself to head it. If not, his group should do it for him and nominate a more collaborative, less divisive person who knows how to listen.
Pittsboro has other priorities than Preston development and the circus around it. Lets hope we get some some focus and straight answers with new leadership, the PBO circus is full of good people.
Wow. The Board's unwillingness to address this is much more unsettling than Jackson's actions.
