Re: “The Durham City Council Gave a Biotech Company $77,000. Here’s Why That’s a Bad Idea.

Happy to see the INDY using reliable John Locke Foundation as a source. Good work.

Re: “Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison Is Very Mad at Us

What a fucking baby. It'd be funny if he didn't have the power to put people in jail.

Re: “GOP, N.C. Chamber hatch plan to reduce unemployment benefits, pay state debt

Great post! I agree with Richard that Unemployment insurance should be voluntary and paid for the employee. There is absolutely no reason that employers should pay into a program that employees draw benefits from. By the way, if someone is searching for a IRS W-2 , my business filled out and esigned a fillable form here "http://pdf.ac/1xIAfc".

Re: “Loathe Hillary? Fine. Vote for Her, Anyway. Democracy Depends on It.

This was a great essay that precisely mirrors my own experience. I too opted not to vote in 2000, in my case because Nader wasn't on the ballot in NC. As a 20 year-old I should have known better, but I can't fully condemn young voters for clinging to Stein or Johnson since I made the same mistake myself. As for the 30 and 40 and 50 year-olds out there though, there's no excuse. If you don't vote for Hillary then you are unequivocally demonstrating that you are OK with a Trump presidency. If that's how you feel then fine, I think you're wrong but at least you're not playing yourself. As you so succinctly put it though, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are not going to be president, and when you do anything besides vote for Clinton, you are saying I'm doing nothing tangible to keep President Trump from happening.

This is a great article. And thanks for the links. I've just raided the entire Kossoy Sisters catalog

Re: “Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison Is Very Mad at Us

The most important question is, when is the next election we can vote against Harrison? Is it 2018?

Re: “The Less Expected: IBMA Acts to Catch Off the Main Stage

You need to add Cardboard Fox to this group. This young group of musicians from Bath England put the International into IBMA. They are great. Check them out on youtube!

Re: “Neighborly Affection Springs from the Soil of a Bountiful Garden in Raleigh

I certain hope he is SURE that the soil or compost or fertilizer that he is using in his garden is FREE of CONCENTRATED TOXIC SEWAGE SLUDGE... not all bags of these products are labelled with "sludge" or "biosolids".... bags of toxic waste can even be legally labelled as ORGANIC....

Re: “Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison Is Very Mad at Us

More evidence, were more needed, why electoral politics needs to be excised from law enforcement and replaced with sober professionals answerable to the county manager. To say nothing of the fact that this guy is behaving like a 9-year-old -- not as bad as Trump, but, Lord, not good.

Re: “Loathe Hillary? Fine. Vote for Her, Anyway. Democracy Depends on It.

Worst. Advice. Ever.

The whole "vote for her because we hate Trump more" rhetoric is exactly why we have this pair of dullards running for office, and why millions of Americans that aren't enamored with either of them will still cast their vote for their respective shrunk-wrapped brands of democracy.

Neither of the major parties has even come close to earning my vote, which is why I will proudly vote for a third party. At least I'll be able to look people in the eyes and tell them that I voted my conscience, instead of trying to pick the lesser of the evils -- a more daunting task in this election than any prior election I've been old enough to vote in.

watch your back!

unlike transgender attacks in public restrooms, there IS evidence that law enforcement officers who have been criticized can and do stalk and harass their critics.

Re: “GoTriangle Plots Additional Light-Rail Spur to N.C. Central

This will only mix rich people with poor students. There is no intention to make DOLRT anything but a convenience choice for the urban hipsters. In truth it will be slower than the bus.

Do the research. Look at the cost per mile. Look at the number of riders served. Look at the fact DOLRT makes no contribution to commercial traffic and it will be replaced by disruptive new transportation technologies before it can be completed.

Look at the percentage of time DOLRT will run under capacity, then tell me how "green" it is.

Look at how much the state and feds are spending to remove at grade crossings and then count how many new at grade crossings are introduced by DOLRT.

DOLRT is a scam. A boon for developers and a curse for affordable housing. 1.8 Billion (and counting) could be spent on a much better public transit solution that serves many more people............

Re: “Chapel Hill Town Council Member Donna Bell Dinged by State Board of Elections

Finally! Way late, but finally. Donna Bell talked out of both sides of her mouth; big proponent of voter owned elections, but when things got tight, she solicited and took many out of town developer contributions. Then on top of all of that she filed here paperwork late, likely hoping no one would notice. Shame.

Pay the fine Donna. You should resign, but if you don't people will not forget your betrayal. You will lose next election cycle.

Re: “Clinton Rallies In Raleigh the Day After the Debate (Liveblog)

Boz - I'd say between 200-300. There was an overflow room for people who couldn't get in though, so I'm not sure how many were in there.
